| TUVEY ON THE
PODIUM IN MONZA |
|
Oliver Turvey finished third in the GP2 feature race
at Monza to claim his third podium in the series.
Turvey made a good
start from fourth on the grid to hold his position on the opening laps. However
behind Turvey and the other front runners there was chaos, which eliminated 10
cars, bringing out the safety car twice in the opening five laps.
At the
restart after the first safety car, Turvey made an opportunistic move on
D'Ambrosio into the first chicane which allowed him to overtake and move ahead
of Bianchi into second position. After the second safety car, the race settled
into a steady rhythm with Bird, Turvey and Bianchi circulating at the head of
the field in the run up to the pit stop window. The team's strategy decision
allowed Bianchi to jump Turvey in the pit stop so he emerged from his stop in
sixth moving up into third behind Bird and Bianchi as the legitimate race order
worked itself out.
Turvey drove a solid race after the pit stop,
lapping consistently but did not have the pace of the two ART cars ahead who
were up to one second a lap quicker. After making no mistakes, Turvey crossed
the finish line to take third position and another podium.
"I'm pretty
pleased to be on the podium but would have liked to have been on the top step,"
said Turvey. "Unfortunately we didn't have the race pace to challenge the two
ART cars ahead so I feel 3rd was the maximum we could do today. It's more good
points again and it gets us a good grid position for tomorrow's sprint race as
well. I will work hard with the team tonight so hopefully we can make some
improvements for tomorrow, as I'm confident we can get another podium."
