| TURVEY PLAYS
CATCHUP ON GP2 DEBUT |
|
A resigned Oliver Turvey finished 18th in free
practice and qualifying at the stunning new Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi
today on his GP2 Asia debut.
The RSF driver - on the back foot after
missing last week's two-day test at the circuit - had been targeting a time
that would have placed him four or five rows further up the grid for tomorrow's
pitstop race.
"Obviously I'm disappointed," he said. "The car was good,
I was happy with it, it was just a lack of laps," he said.
"Practically
all the other drivers had done a hundred laps or so in testing last week
whereas I'd done only about six timed laps in free practice. So I was always
going to be at a bit of a disadvantage.
"The track changed a lot as
well, so I think I did the maximum I could with what I had. But obviously
everyone was two days ahead of us.
"All the same, at this level you
have to be competitive from the moment you arrive. So we'll have to do a lot
better in the race tomorrow, which I'm reasonably confident we can."
Turvey, along with fellow GP2 rookie Charles Pic, missed the test
session due to a clash of dates between the final round of the Formula Renault
3.5 Championship in Spain.
