| NO REPEAT WIN
FOR TURVEY IN HUNGARY |
|
A lack of pace in qualifying put paid to any chance
of a repeat Formula Renault 3.5 win for Oliver Turvey in round four of the
championship in Hungary today.
Turvey, who dominated the previous round
in Monaco, was caught up in traffic in the early qualifying session and missed
the cut for the reverse grid in the later super pole shoot out.
The
double whammy relegated him to the fifth row of the grid for both rounds of the
weekend's double header.
In this afternoon's first race the mid-grid
start left him struggling to make headway on the twisty Hungaroring which
presents few overtaking opportunities.
After gaining a place on the
first lap, the frustrated RSF driver circulated in ninth place behind Adrian
Zaugg until the South African spun on lap 13.
Turvey capitalised on the
error to set off in pursuit of seventh place man Miguel Molina, narrowing the
gap from 4.27s at the end of lap 14 to 0.354 of a second on lap 26.
But
with only two laps to go and next to no chance of finding a way around the
Spaniard he reluctantly settled for eighth place and three championship points.
"It was disappointing after Monaco," he said. "But at least we got some
points.
"In the super pole I think maybe we came in a lap too early for
new tyres and missed out on the best track conditions. Certainly those that
came in after us posted faster times.
"After that, with the circuit
being such a difficult one to overtake at, it was all down to the start really.
Jaime (Alguersuari), who started alongside me, managed to get a better exit
from turn one and moved up a few places. Then after the first few corners it
settled down into a bit of a procession really until Zaugg went off in front of
me.
"The safety car coming out, on lap 15 I think it was, gave me a
chance to close in on Molina. But, while I was a lot quicker than him, it was
just not possible to overtake.
"Hopefully tomorrow, with the mandatory
pit stop and our race pace which is good, we can move forward a bit
more."
Turvey starts from 10th on the grid again alongside Carlin team
mate Alguersuari
