| TURVEY MAKES IT
LOOK EASY IN SCOTLAND |
|
Oliver Turvey and Team Loctite proved absolutely
dominant in the latest rounds of the Formula BMW UK Championship at Knockhill
in Scotland - taking two pole positions, leading every lap of both races, and
winning by comfortable margins.
This crushing performance was
particularly satisfying given the events of the previous rounds at Snetterton,
where Turvey had also taken both pole positions. On that occasion he slid off
on a dirty track in race one before fighting back to seventh, but sustained a
broken engine frame that would badly compromise his second race, although he
salvaged second.
There were no such disappointments at Knockhill.
Normally this short, dramatic, track sees some of the closest qualifying action
of the season, but Turvey's dominance in the damp conditions put paid to that,
as the Cumbrian teenager put Team Loctite's car on pole by three-tenths of a
second in each session.
Turvey then produced gloriously controlled
performances on both the very wet track that the drivers encountered in race
one, and in the dry afternoon weather. He quickly established a three second
lead in the morning round and then protected the advantage as Team Loctite kept
him informed of the gap back to the rest of the field. In race two, only
traffic in the final laps brought the second placed driver within sight of
Turvey, who calmly dealt with the impediment and cruised to yet another
win.
"People are saying that Oliver is making it look easy," said Team
Loctite team principal Trevor Powell, "but that is often the case when someone
is absolutely on top of their game.
"It really was textbook stuff this
weekend. It's not only Oliver's driving that is impressive, but his commitment
to giving us perfect technical feedback is incredible. We know exactly what the
car is doing at every corner, and that really helps to get the ideal set-up.
"The team deserve praise as well. It's difficult to describe how
professional and dedicated this crew is - and that's all the more impressive
given their inexperience with single-seaters. Like Oliver, they are doing an
absolutely stunning job at the moment.
"We're in a really strong
position now as second in the championship is just about possible."
That
would be an astonishing result for a team and driver combination that only
joined the series seven races into the season, but such is Turvey and Team
Loctite's form at present, it is conceivable that they might achieve it when
the championship concludes at Silverstone in mid-October.
