| TURVEY SECOND
IN REVERSE GRID RACE |
|
A disappointed Oliver Turvey had to settle for second
place in this afternoon's Formula Renault 3.5 reverse grid race at Motorland
Aragon in Spain.
Polesitter Turvey led the field for over half the
race, fending off Bertrand Baguette for three laps before finally having to
concede the lead to the battling Belgian on lap 15.
The RSF driver was
caught by the recently crowned 2009 champion heading out of the Turn 14 hairpin
onto the long back straight and was powerless to keep him at bay any longer.
"I'd seen him coming through and could see he was able to pass people
quite easily so I really pushed like hell to get away from him," he said.
"And for a few laps I was able to hold him off. But then he got a
really good exit onto the back straight and was able to slipstream me and get
down the inside. But from then on I was able to keep the same pace as him and
actually managed to close in on him a bit towards the end.
"Obviously
I'm disappointed we didn't get the win. But, considering we struggled a bit in
testing yesterday, I think we've made quite big improvements.
"And on
top of that I've got another 10 points which helps in the championship both for
myself and for Carlin in the teams championship, which is good."
Turvey's second place - his fifth podium finish of the season - moves
him up to fourth in the driver standings to set up a hotly-contested battle for
second place.
