| TURVEY THIRD IN
RING SUPERPOLE |
|
Oliver Turvey finished third in today's Formula
Renault 3.5 Superpole at the Nurburgring after topping the time sheets in the
earlier Group B qualifying session.
The RSF driver starts sixth in this
afternoon's reverse grid race and will line up third on the grid for tomorrow's
pitstop race.
Turvey - who currently lies sixth in the drivers' points
table and second in the rookie driver standings behind Carlin team mate Jaime
Alguersuari - is keen to make up lost ground after a DNF in the last round in
Portugal and a 10th place at Le Mans due to a cross-threaded wheelnut in the
pitstop race.
"I think I'm in a good position for both races which
hopefully will enable me to score some good points later today and tomorrow. I
think realistically I've got a good chance of finishing on the podium so let's
wait and see," he said.
"I think both sessions this morning showed we've
got good pace. Brendon (Hartley) and Charles Pic who finished ahead of me in
the Superpole showed that Tech 1 Racing are on the pace too. But the times set
by me and Pic were almost identical so I only just missed out on
P2.
"They weren't quite as quick in the earlier group sessions but made
up for it in Superpole which was a bit of a surprise.
"But I think we're
OK. I've been quickest in the first sector and the last sector as well so I
just need to find a little bit more in the race now."
In yesterday's
free practice Turvey finished fourth fastest despite being stuck in gear on his
final flying lap. Team mate and recently promoted Torro Rosso F1 driver Jaime
Alguersuari finished 13th.
