| MEN AT WAR IN
PORTUGAL FUSTRATE TURVEY |
|
Two accidents put paid to Oliver Turvey's chances of
finishing in the points in the Formula Renault 3.5 reverse grid race in
Portimao this afternoon.
The first - a turn one clash between Epsilon
Euskadi team-mates Dani Clos and Chris Van der Drift - forced Turvey to run
wide while challenging for third position.
The second - a three-quarter
distance collision between P1 driver Daniil Move and RC Motorsport's Pasquale
Di Sabatino - brought Turvey's race to a premature end.
"It's really
frustrating," he said afterwards. "I got a really good start. I was up to
fourth before turn one and was challenging for third when Van der Drift and
Clos touched wheels and spun right in front of me.
"That dropped me all
the way down to ninth.
"Then on the second lap I got passed Barba. But
quite early on I was really struggling with oversteer in the middle part of the
track and he was able to get the place back. Move got me on lap seven as
well.
"But then on lap 14 Move and the guy in front, Di Sabatino,
crashed at turn six. Unfortunately this time I was unable to avoid the
aftermath.
"As they spun towards the outside of the track I went for
the inside but didn't manage to make it through and damaged my front wing and a
front wheel.
"It's a shame because if I had, I'm pretty sure I'd have
finished sixth and in the points."
