| TURVEY TAKES
PODIUM AT SILVERSTONE |
|
Oliver Turvey claimed third place in this afternoon's
Formula Renault 3.5 race at Silverstone with a faultless drive to put his
championship challenge back on track.
It was the RSF driver's second
podium finish of the season and went some way towards making up for the
disappointment of his DNF in the previous race at Hungary.
Turvey, who
started from fifth on the grid, circulated behind championship leader Marcos
Martinez, polesitter Bertrand Baguette, Daniil Move and Fairuz Fauzy for the
first three laps.
But when Move took to the grass at Vale on lap four,
Fauzy and Turvey seized the opportunity to move up a place on the run into
Club.
Baguette was next to fall into their clutches, but not until lap
18 when he out-braked himself heading into Abbey - an error the chasing pair
were quick to capitalise on.
With Baguette out of the way they then
closed down the gap to Martinez but were unable to mount a challenge for the
lead before the chequered flag.
"I would say me and Fauzy were the two
quickest on the track at various stages," Turvey reflected. "Unfortunately we
were held up early on by Baguette and Move.
"Fauzy had really good race
pace so once the other two were out of the way we were able to catch Martinez
really quickly. But unfortunately there weren't enough laps and, in fairness to
Martinez, he was able to speed up a bit towards the end when it looked like
Fauzy's tyres had gone off.
"So overall it was a good race and good to
get onto the podium in my home round.
"The championship has a long way
to go yet but at least we've moved in the right direction today. And if I can
get another podium tomorrow, that should enable me to take another step
forwards."
Turvey starts from fourth on the grid in the mandatory
pitstop race tomorrow afternoon.
