| TURVEY CLAIMS
SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON AT SPA |
|
Friday, 01 August 2008: Oliver Turvey won the second
race of his short British F3 career in a dominant display at Spa-Francorchamps
today.
The 21 years-old Racing Steps Foundation driver had served notice
of his intentions after emerging on top in both of Friday's free practice
sessions.
He then rounded off the day with his maiden F3 pole - and to
emphasise the fact that he had really found his sweet spot in his Carlin
Dallara-Mercedes - he claimed a second pole in this morning's qualifying
session.
After today, the F3 rookie lies second in the championship four
points behind the leader. Despite starting from pole position for today's round
15, he initially lost the lead to fellow Carlin team mate Brendon Hartley who
got the better of him on the run down to La Source.
But with the
prospect of his second win of the season in sight he quickly found a way past
the New Zealander on the run up to Les Combes following a side by side battle
through Eau Rouge.
Afterwards a jubilant Turvey commented: "I didn't
make the best start but here it's not a big issue really. There's the long
straight up to Les Combes, so once I dropped to second I just decided I was
going to slipstream Brendon down there, which I managed to do, and from then on
it was just a matter of controlling the race from the front.
"So to get
a second win and for it to be here at Spa is just fantastic for
me, the Racing Steps Foundation and the team.
"Carlin and my race
engineer Jimmy have given me a fantastic car so I just hope I can put in a
repeat performance tomorrow to reward everyone for all the support I'm getting.
We've certainly got the pace as we've already shown But tomorrow's another day,
so we'll just have to wait and see."
