| TURVEY RETURNS
TO FORMULA BMW |
|
Oliver Turvey will rejoin the Formula BMW UK
Championship from round seven at Brands Hatch on 21st May, having been signed
to spearhead the new Team Loctite operation.
World leading high
performance adhesives company Loctite has joined forces with Trevor Powell, who
recently sold his Team SWR squad to Nigel Mansell, to create a new outfit that
will contest the remainder of the Formula BMW season before stepping up to
British Formula Three.
Alongside his Formula BMW races, 19-year-old
Turvey will carry out a testing programme in Team Loctite's Dallara-Mugen Honda
F3 machine. The expectation is that he will contest late season rounds of the
British F3 series in the National Class in preparation for a full Championship
Class campaign in 2007.
Turvey drove for Powell's previous Formula BMW
team in 2004, winning at Rockingham, before returning for a partial season the
following year, when he scored a string of podium finishes and took eighth in
the championship despite missing several races for financial
reasons.
"Oliver has always been a superb driver and a real pleasure to
work with," Powell said. "But in previous years he never had the budget to make
the most of his talent.
"Now with Loctitle behind him, Oliver finally
has the support that he deserves and will be able to compete on a much more
equal footing than before."
Although Turvey is extremely unlikely to
feature in the Formula BMW championship battle having missed the opening six
rounds, he will surely be contending for race victories from the outset, given
his undoubted ability and his experience of the category.
